MILWAUKEE (BUSINESS WIRE), March 08, 2010 - The Northwestern Mutual Foundation is announcing $200,000 in Community Impact Award grants for nonprofit organizations to honor exemplary community service achievements made by Northwestern Mutual financial professionals.

Four Northwestern Mutual offices are being recognized for their efforts with grants of $50,000 to the organizations they represent.

“We’re very proud of the impact that our volunteers are making in their communities,” said Kimberley Goode, Northwestern Mutual Foundation president. “They’re working hard to address people’s urgent needs and strengthen their communities.”

Special Olympics Connecticut – The Bender Financial Group, Westport, CT

The Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT) is an organization committed to providing year-round activities and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Over the past seven years, the Bender Financial Group helped to raise more than $300,000 through annual events including a golf tournament and a “Penguin Plunge,” allowing the SOCT to expand program offerings for athletes throughout southwest Connecticut.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) of New Mexico – Miller Financial Group, Albuquerque, NM

The JDRF of New Mexico is an organization committed to finding a cure for Type one diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Over the last three years, the Miller Financial Group provided active support for a wide variety of JDRF events including fundraising breakfasts, golf tournaments, charity walks, family picnics and board meetings.

Easter Seals United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of North Carolina & Virginia – Richard Worrell, Charlotte, NC

The Easter Seals UCP of North Carolina and Virginia is an organization that seeks to create additional opportunities for children and adults with disabilities Following the diagnosis of his son with agenesis of the corpus callosum, a rare birth defect, Northwestern Mutual – Charlotte Managing Director Richard Worrell recruited his colleagues to raise more than $170,000 for the organization, becoming Easter Seals UCP’s largest corporate partner in the Charlotte area. Each fall, the office sponsors the annual Easter Seals UCP Walk with Me event, which is recognized as one of the most successful Easter Seals walks in the country.

Back2Back Ministries – The Kelley Financial Group, Cincinnati, OH

Back2Back Ministries (B2B) is an organization committed to meeting the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of widows, orphans and those in need while building servant leaders of all ages within the community and around the globe. Spearheaded by wealth management advisor J. Jay Kersey, CFP, CFS, and financial representative and former Managing Partner Ron Beshear, CLU, the team from the Kelley Financial Group raised more than $1 million over the past 10 years, helping to provide educational support and enable students to further their education through high school and college.
