Northwestern Mutual's board of trustees [http://www.nmfn.com/tn/aboutus--fi_trustees] has elected S. Scott Voynich, CPA, to serve on the financial security company's board. Voynich is Managing Partner of Robinson, Grimes & Company, P.C., one of the largest Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firms in the state of Georgia.
"Scott brings valuable experience and expert advice to our board," said Edward J. Zore, President & CEO of Northwestern Mutual. "His knowledge of accounting and corporate reporting is essential to fulfilling the board's rigorous auditing obligations. With Scott, our board will continue its uncompromising commitment to financial strength."
Voynich previously served on Northwestern Mutual's Policyowners' Examining Committee [http://www.nmfn.com/tn/aboutus--nm_policyowners], an independent group appointed each year to take an impartial and unrestricted look at the company's operations, management and strategic planning.
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in business management and accounting, Voynich took a job with Robinson, Grimes & Company. After several years, he accepted the challenge of becoming chief financial officer of a large highway specialty-contracting firm, where he served in a turnaround capacity. While there, he worked to streamline operations, close field divisions and sell off excess equipment. After achieving these goals, Voynich rejoined his partners at Robinson, Grimes & Company, where he has been serving as Managing Partner since 1988.
Voynich is very active in his local community, teaching for the accounting department at Columbus State University and serving in an advisor capacity to the accounting department at Columbus Technical College. He has also served as chairman of the board of directors of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), traveling world-wide representing the 350,000 member CPA profession, and interacting with regulators and elected officials. He continues to serve as chairman of the Special Committee on Mobility for the AICPA, devoted to developing legislative solutions to the challenges of the cross-border practice of public accounting.
