Kanan Sachdeva is originally from India and moved to the United States in 1997. After earning an MBA in finance and working in the financial industry for a few years, she decided to stay at home full time to raise her two daughters.
When she was ready to re-enter the workforce eight years later, Kanan wanted to find a way to balance family and a career. As a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual, she found the perfect fit.

Making a Difference
I am proud to be an advisor people can trust throughout life. My goal is to help clients understand what’s possible so they can realize their hopes and dreams. It’s rewarding to know I’ve helped people take charge of their financial futures.
I’ve witnessed the benefits of solid financial planning firsthand. My husband and I have been Northwestern Mutual clients since 2004, and we have implemented many of the strategies I suggest. This has put us on solid financial ground and given me a deeper appreciation for the value of what I do.

I control when I work, what I achieve and how much I earn. I can go to my daughters’ games and recitals, spend time with my husband and remain active in my community—while being successful in a career I love.
I had to work hard to build my business. Starting out, I knew that failure was not an option and put in a lot of effort to make sure I had a good first year. There was so much to learn and absorb. I learned a great deal though joint work with a veteran advisor. I took notes, studied the language and stayed up late learning the business.
Fortunately, I came into this career with realistic expectations. I knew it would not be easy, but I also believed in what I had to offer to clients. I knew that they would be better off after meeting with me.
People don’t usually knock on your door, so you have to be willing to network and ask for referrals. Embrace the opportunity to create strong, personal relationships. When you build trust, your business will grow naturally.
It’s important to manage your time wisely. Because I balance so many roles, I’ve learned to work efficiently and rely on full-time staff to support my work. I suggest building a support team as soon as possible.
