A Ballerina Is Born!

November 17, 2015 | Rose Bowl

Ballerina is BornCarrie Richardson says her daughter Peyton’s passion for dance was sparked at age three. Carrie and her husband, Roger, took Peyton to see the Houston Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker.  She says, “I remember a three-year-old sitting still for the entire ballet. The whole thing mesmerized her. She loved it.”

Peyton remembers it, too: “I was just in awe of all of the dancers.”

Peyton was soon enrolled in ballet at a dance studio close to their home in Sugar Land, Texas. “I still have her dress-up tutus from when she was little. I remember her wearing them to the grocery store and always wanting to wear them to preschool.”

Peyton says that feeling, that rush, she got while watching her first ballet is the same feeling she gets when she’s got her stage makeup, tutu and shoes on as she’s waiting in the wings to perform. “I fall into that awe again,” she says, and it’s a feeling she never takes for granted.
