2017 Looks Like a Banner Year for Entry-Level Jobs

Thanks to some encouraging numbers on the jobs front, a lot of new grads at college commencements this May and June will have good reason to hurl their caps in the air.
A new survey of more than 400 companies nationwide reports that employers are increasing their entry-level hiring this year by 8.5%. This record-setting hiring surge cements 2017 as the strongest year for entry-level job seekers in more than 15 years.
The survey, by jobs site CollegeGrad.com, finds that major workplaces such as Hertz, PwC and even the FBI are seeking thousands of recent grads for roles that have traditionally helped young adults start climbing the career ladder.
The jump in entry-level hiring comes on the heels of other upbeat news for job seekers at all levels. The U.S. economy added 227,000 jobs in January, according to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics report. Average hourly earnings also ticked up last month by 2.5%, the report states.
These healthy numbers are terrific news for younger members of the Millennial generation who may just now be getting their diplomas, or their older siblings who may still be trying to get their foot in the door in their desired industries. So if you fall into these categories, start polishing your resume and brush up on your interview skills, in part by knowing the right responses to tricky questions that could lead to a callback—and then the job.
