Joel grew up in a small southern town in Georgia, Fitzgerald, before coming to Jacksonville State University on a baseball scholarship. While at JSU, Joel met his wife, Ashley.
Joel and Ashley currently reside in Southside with their sons, Will (12) and Sam (9). Ashley is a English teacher at Southside High School and has taught for 16 years. Joel and Ashley are active members of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Gadsden. They enjoy time spent with family, their Sunday school class, going to college football games and vacationing to the beach in the summer.

ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.

Beads of Courage is an art-in-medicine program that helps kids with cancer tell their unique treatment story through colorful beads that are symbols of their courage.
