Josh married his wonderful wife, Lucy, in 2021. Josh and Lucy live in Alexandria, VA and have called the DC area home for over a decade. While the couple enjoy DC’s cultural events, museums, and culinary scene, Josh’s Eagle Scout roots often lead them to leave the Metro area and enjoy nature through camping, hiking, and canoeing.

An avid hockey player since childhood, Josh continues to play in various DC adult leagues and volunteered as the head coach for his former team at American University. Josh also has fond memories of his previous seasonal job as a member of the Washington Capitals Ice Crew, keeping the ice up to standards during the NHL season. Look for his former ice crew teammates next time you are watching a game at Capital One Arena!

In addition to his volunteer time supporting the hockey program at American University and Northwestern Mutual’s preferred charity, childhood cancer research through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Josh gives back through an organization called the Great American Flag Preservation Group. Josh co-founded this non-profit organization with the mission to restore and preserve the Great American Flag, a 2 acre, 7 ton American flag that graced the cover of Guinness’ Book of World Records in 1981. You can read more about his organization at: https://www.greatamericanflag.org/. Don’t hesitate to ask Josh about the flag at your next meeting!

Professionally, Josh Dorfman is committed to furthering his practice and enhancing his professional development. He is most proud of passing the rigorous exams necessary to become a Chartered Financial Analyst. In addition to earning his CFA Charter, Josh has obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional certification, Life, Health, and Accident insurance licenses, and obtained FINRA’s Series 6, 7, 63, & 65 registrations. He specializes in helping clients balance the math of their financial plan with their personal psychology to feel confident in their decision-making.

Thrash was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He studied Systems Engineering at the University of Virginia before his professional journey led him to Northern Virginia, where he initially worked in commercial construction management before transitioning to financial services operations. It was in Arlington that Thrash met his wife, Laurel. The couple married in 2016 and welcomed their first child, Ford, in 2024.

Thrash loves sports, particularly basketball. He helps coach a local high school’s JV team and enjoys playing pickup and adult league games with friends. Lending a hand in my community.

As part of Northwestern Mutual, we are proud to help accelerate the search for better childhood cancer treatments while supporting families undergoing treatment, and survivors from late effects. Here are some of the organizations we partner with:

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF)

ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.
