Certifications and Designations

The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professional designation is one of the most recognized financial planning marks in the world. CFP® certification identifies to the public those individuals who have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism, and diligence when dealing with clients. The certification differs from an educational designation or state license in that it is based upon requirements that have been determined by extensive job analyses of actual practitioners in the field and, therefore, continue to evolve with the profession.

The Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation is offered through the American College. The certification qualifies one to consult on financial matters, especially for individuals and small businesses. To qualify for a ChFC, one must have worked a certain number of years in the financial industry and complete courses in income tax, insurance, employee benefits, investment, and estate planning, among others.

The Certified in Long-Term Care (CLTC) certification is offered to professionals that have completed a rigorous multidisciplinary course that focuses on the matter of long-term care planning. Long-term care insurance is a complex product that offers many forms of protection and pricing structures. CLTC professionals are highly trained in the field of long-term care and know the appropriate questions to ask. Their main goal is to help you identify solutions for your needs.

Lending a hand in my community.

Mark has always been vocal with his friends and family about saving and investing early. With his friends in the LGBTQ+ community, he was especially vocal, given that those in the LGBTQ+ community are some of the wealthiest pre-retirement groups but one of the poorest in retirement. Mark believes that with proper planning, the retirement years can be financially sound.

Mark founded and chaired the LA District's LGBTQIA+ and Ally DEI Council, which functions to create an inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ individuals in the workplace. The council also helps fellow financial advisors better serve clients in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Under his leadership, council members provide NM leaders and allies with valuable educational opportunities and resources from which to learn about, volunteer with, or host fundraisers for LGBTQIA+ community organizations or events.

Mark is also a founding Board member of the LGBT Field Advisory Board and was instrumental in the formation of Pride@NM nationwide.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF)

ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.

Northwestern Mutual LGBTQ+ and Ally Council

Mark is a co-chair and founding member of the Northwestern Mutual LGBTQ+ and Ally Council, which functions to create an inclusive space for LGBTQ+ individuals in the workplace. The council also helps fellow financial advisors better serve clients in the LGBTQ+ community. Under Masliah’s leadership, council members provide company leaders and the ally community with valuable educational opportunities and resources from which to learn about, volunteer with or host fundraisers for LGBTQ+ community organizations or events. Organizations include:

How Northwestern Mutual helps you live the life you want.

When people feel better about their money, good things happen—they become more confident and feel more secure. For more than 160 years, Northwestern Mutual has helped people achieve the financial flexibility they need to live more and worry less.

Being a mutual company means Northwestern Mutual reports to its clients, not Wall Street. They don't believe in chasing fads or taking undue risk for short-term gains. Instead, they take a long-term approach—both in the way we help people plan to reach their goals, and in the way they do business. This has served their clients (and mine) well through all kinds of economic ups and downs, including wars, recessions, even the recent pandemic.

It's why I'm happy to be part of a company that's in it for the long-haul and prioritizes clients over profit.
