Personal
my beauty!

I am a proud husband and father who understands the need to provide, protect and prepare for the futures of those you love.

My wife Robyn, a retired teacher, and I have a blended family with four daughters: Hannah, Drew, Erin, and Emily. Outside of spending time with these amazing women, I enjoy sports, playing golf and being outdoors. I have lived in Durham since 1991 and I love this town immensely, although weekends are often spent at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, traveling or at the beach.

For all of my years in the financial services industry, I have been a father. The need for business owners and professionals to plan for and achieve long-term professional goals while respecting and protecting those they love is a need that lies close to my heart.  Through good times and bad, I have seen the impact that personalized financial planning can have on the people closest to my clients and friends. I love my work because it's more than just work- it's personal, it's meaningful, and it can make a difference when it matters the most.

Professional

After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BS in Business Administration, I began my career in the financial services industry in 1991. My original goal was to work towards an MBA, but I soon realized that my greatest joy came from working with clients. A longtime wrestling coach, I already knew how much I loved helping others achieve their goals. With finance, I realized I could use my coaching experience in my profession, and help clients achieve their financial goals. Since that realization, I changed my life and never looked back. In 1996, I reorganized my practice and became affiliated with Northwestern Mutual.  In 2012, I completed my Masters degree in Financial Services from the American College. In 2014, I was named NAIFA-NC Advisor of the Year and added Fee-Based Planning to my repertoire. Today, I am proud of the Grantham Financial team and the work that we do to improve the financial lives of our clients.

I work with many diverse professional clients but specialize in the following markets:

Community Involvement

Serving my Community

I spent many years as a wrestling coach for a local club wrestling team. My focus was always on coaching personal responsibility, the importance of goal setting, and the need for principled discipline.

Our team looks for ways to serve and support our community, from volunteering at the NC Diaper Bank, to sponsoring events held by local charities, to sustaining the educational programming at WUNC radio, to donating to and adopting from the local SPCA, in addition to many other events and programs. I am also a proud member of the Durham Sunrise Rotary Club.

The Durnham Sunrise Rotary

The Durham Sunrise Rotary, known in this area as "The Little Club that Can and Does", includes a diverse cross-section of Durhamites from a range of professional backgrounds. The club is nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. The main objective of all Rotary clubs is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities, international exchanges, and professional development opportunities. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

Backpack Buddies

The Durham Sunrise Rotary Club has an annual fundraiser for Backpack Buddies, a much-needed program which provides weekend meals for children who count on free breakfasts and lunches during the school week. We were grateful for the opportunity to work with them this year! Learn more about their cause and how to get involved on their website.
