Financial Advisor
Professional
Tyler Clary's journey is rooted in natural grit and determination that began in Riverside, CA. As a child, his family's playful comments about their swimming abilities ignited his resolve to excel in the water. Tyler began swimming competitively at age eight and quickly distinguished himself by earning medals at the 2006 Youth Worlds, where he was named the top performer.
Tyler's dedication and talent earned him an athletic scholarship to the University of Michigan. There, he achieved notable success as a three-time NCAA Champion, received 11 All-American honors, and was named Swimmer of the Year in 2009 after breaking American and NCAA records. His competitive career culminated at the 2012 Olympics in London, where he won gold in the 200-meter backstroke, setting a new Olympic record.
After retiring from competitive swimming in 2016 with 16 international medals, Tyler sought to make a meaningful impact beyond the pool. His transition to financial advising was inspired by a desire to address the lack of wealth education he observed in the athletic community. Tyler's focus on holistic financial planning, risk management, tax efficiencies, and legacy preservation made him a valuable addition to Northwestern Mutual.
In his role, Tyler specializes in assisting high-income earners, high-net-worth individuals, and successful business owners navigate the complexities of financial management. His clients benefit from his strategic approach, shaped by years of rigorous training and competition. Tyler is committed to providing tailored financial solutions that align with his clients' unique goals and circumstances.
Tyler continues to contribute to the athletic community by coaching young athletes, helping them pursue their dreams with the same dedication he brought to his own career. He resides in Charlotte, NC, with his wife, Clarka, his daughter, Cora, and his dog, Ava. When he's not working, Tyler enjoys spending time at the lake, and competing in precision rifle matches.
Lending a hand in my community.
As part of Northwestern Mutual, I'm proud to help accelerate the search for better childhood cancer treatments while supporting families undergoing treatment, and survivors from late effects. Here are some of the organizations we partner with:
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF)
ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.

How Northwestern Mutual helps you live the life you want.
When people feel better about their money, good things happen—they become more confident and feel more secure. For more than 160 years, Northwestern Mutual has helped people achieve the financial flexibility they need to live more and worry less.
Being a mutual company means Northwestern Mutual reports to its clients, not Wall Street. They don't believe in chasing fads or taking undue risk for short-term gains. Instead, they take a long-term approach—both in the way we help people plan to reach their goals, and in the way they do business. This has served their clients (and mine) well through all kinds of economic ups and downs, including wars, recessions, even the recent pandemic.
It's why I'm happy to be part of a company that's in it for the long-haul and prioritizes clients over profit.
