Northwestern Mutual's 150th Anniversary Highlighted by $265,000 Donation to Service Organizations Nationwide
As Northwestern Mutual rings in its 150th year of business, the company's Sesquicentennial is highlighted by its national Community Service Award program, which donates $265,000 to 25 non-profit organizations across the U.S. served by the winning representatives. The annual competition, open to more than 9,000 representatives of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, recognizes exemplary volunteer involvement and dedication to charitable organizations and philanthropic projects.
Twenty-four "Outstanding Volunteers," are recognized and honored for their achievements with a grant of $10,000 to each organization they represent. One "Most Exceptional Volunteer" is named and awarded a $25,000 grant for their designated non-profit.
"Our company has made it a priority to give back to the communities where our financial representatives serve," said Ed Zore, President & CEO of Northwestern Mutual. "Our Community Service Award program is designed to salute our representatives for their dedicated community service and to lend financial support to their respective organizations."
Zore noted that since Northwestern Mutual started the award program in 1995, the company has donated more than $2.2 million dollars on behalf of its representatives to over 200 non-profit organizations nationwide. "For 150 years we have encouraged our representatives to be active in their communities, and our company is honored to contribute to local groups that have a positive impact on people's lives," he added.
Now in its 13th year, the Community Service Award program is open to any full-time Financial Representative or Associate Financial Representative who is actively involved in a non-profit, tax-exempt organization. Representatives may submit entries themselves or be nominated by another colleague. A panel of judges selects the winners based on their commitment, dedication and hands-on volunteer involvement.
The program is funded by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, which has donated more than $70 million to national and Milwaukee-area nonprofit organizations in the past five years. For decades, the Company has been committed to improving the quality of life by concentrating its charitable contributions in the areas of education, health and human services, and the arts and culture.
