Northwestern Mutual honored for commitment to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE, October 29, 2014 – Every day Northwestern Mutual helps millions of families build financial security. The company has a long history of strengthening communities where its employees and financial representative live and work. Together, with community partners Northwestern Mutual is improving education, revitalizing neighborhoods, spotlighting destinations and accelerating cures for childhood cancer.
Northwestern Mutual was presented the 2014 Organization Award by Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin at its annual Celebrate Children’s Dinner and Awards on October 28 at the Pfister Hotel. The company was recognized for its $2 million gift in 2013 for The Northwestern Mutual Day Hospital, a new outpatient treatment center for children with cancer and blood disorders. The Organization Award honors companies for their generous levels of support and strong partnerships.
“We are very proud that The Northwestern Mutual Day Hospital for Childhood Cancer will create a family-friendly environment to offer fun activities for kids while they are undergoing treatment,” said John Schlifske, chairman and CEO of Northwestern Mutual. “In that spirit, we are honored to receive the Organization Award.”
The Northwestern Mutual Day Hospital for Childhood Cancer is scheduled to open in early 2015. It will be located on the fifth floor of Children’s Hospital and includes exam, treatment and conference rooms. There will be a community room that provides an environment of emotional support while care is delivered, and where patients and families may engage in play and educational activities led by specially trained staff. It also includes a pharmacy to provide customized treatment options designed to meet the specific needs of the child.
Northwestern Mutual’s Childhood Cancer Program is committed to accelerating the search for cures for childhood cancers and providing support for families battling the disease. The program launched in July 2012 and has touched more than 3,000 families and funded more than 41,000 hours of research.
