Northwestern Mutual Moves Up on FORTUNE 500 List

MILWAUKEE, April 15, 2010 — Northwestern Mutual, the industry leader in total individual life insurance and disability insurance dividends paid to participating policyowners, ranks 115th on the 2010 FORTUNE 500 list, up three positions from last year.

“It’s a testament to our strength, consistency and longevity to move up on the FORTUNE 500 list, but our desire is to be the best financial security company, not the biggest,” said Edward J. Zore, Northwestern Mutual chairman and chief executive officer. “We are very pleased to be known for the strength of our business and the long-term value of our products, because we know how important that is to our policyowners.”

The annual FORTUNE 500 list ranks all U.S. companies by revenue.  The full list will appear in FORTUNE, available on newsstands Monday, April 19.

Northwestern Mutual is one of only a few companies in the financial services industry to hold the distinction of receiving the best available insurance financial strength ratings from all four major rating agencies (A.M. Best, A++, March 2010), (Moody’s, Aaa, March 2010, Standard & Poor’s, AAA, March 2010), (Fitch, AAA, June 2009). Financial ratings are subject to change.

Northwestern Mutual has paid life insurance dividends every year since 1872. Dividends are not guaranteed, are reviewed annually and are subject to change.
