    Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

    John E. Schlifske is chairman and chief executive officer of Northwestern Mutual and a member of the company’s Board of Trustees. After joining Northwestern Mutual in 1987 as an investment specialist, Schlifske moved from portfolio manager to senior executive overseeing a variety of the company's investment operations. He later headed different parts of the company’s business operations.

Since 2008, he has served as the company’s chief financial officer. Prior to joining the company, he was an attorney with Quarles & Brady in Milwaukee.

    Senior Vice President – Insurance Products and Client Services

    As senior vice president – insurance products and client services, John M. Grogan is responsible for the overall strategy and performance of the company’s insurance businesses, and for support and servicing of Northwestern’s insurance and investment clients. Grogan joined Northwestern Mutual as an attorney in 1992. He has a broad background as a company attorney, as well as having agencies and product experience, including leading the Field Services and Support and Disability Income departments. He also served as chief executive officer of the Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company during the financial crisis.
