Lending a hand,
however we can.
Causes we care about
Along with making the financial lives of our clients better, we're improving our community, too. Through financial support, volunteerism and collaboration with partners, we're helping to build a stronger community.
University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital
A $500,000 promise was made to the hospital to support the Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa Pediatric Oncology Research Fund and Nursing Support Fund. Since the creation of these funds, $190,000 has gone towards cancer research and $60,000 has been given to support the nurses. Together the two funds will help progress toward finding a cure for pediatric cancers and investing in the people that are doing the day in and out care of patients.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15. ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual has donated more than $20 million to support ALSF. Locally, the Cedar Rapids office is proud to host lemonade stands with other community partners to help raise money that will go toward changing the lives of children with cancer.
Special Spaces
Each year since 2022, Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa has sponsored a room with Special Spaces to create a dream bedroom makeover for a child with cancer who is within one year of treatment. Team members volunteer a day a to help remodel, decorate, and reveal the bedroom to the child and their family.
Ronald McDonald House Charities
Every year, seriously ill children and their families need to travel away from their hometown to receive specialized care. Whether it’s volunteering to make a homecooked meal for families staying in a local Ronald McDonald House or donating money to support one, our office is happy to help keep families together and near the care and resources they need.
