Lending a hand in my community.

As part of Northwestern Mutual, I'm proud to help accelerate the search for better childhood cancer treatments while supporting families undergoing treatment, and survivors from late effects. Here are some of the organizations we partner with:

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF)

ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.

Starlight Children’s Foundation

Partnering with Starlight Children’s Foundation, Northwestern Mutual of Greater Milwaukee, in conjunction with the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, donated three Fun Center mobile entertainment units to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in November. Whether hospitalized children are awaiting surgery or sitting restlessly during treatment, Fun Centers help them cope by providing endless hours of fun and distraction. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin will have access to the Northwestern Mutual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Family Travel Fund. Designed to help relieve some of the financial burden that families often encounter, the Family Travel Fund offers assistance to families who need to travel for childhood cancer treatment at select medical institutions across the country.

I Back Jack: Finding Cures for Childhood Cancer

Scott Schwertfeger and his office were proud sponsors of the "I Back Jack" Foundation's Back to School Golf Event and Dinner in 2009, 2010, & 2012. The "I Back Jack" Foundation's mission is to fund research initiatives for neuroblastoma and related pediatric cancers. This organization was started by John and Sarah Bartosz, whose son, Jack, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at age 4.

Concordia University Wisconsin

Scott Schwertfeger arranged for Edward Zore, CEO of Northwestern Mutual, to deliver the keynote speech on ethical business practices at Concordia University Wisconsin’s Business Leadership Series. Scott is a Board Member of the President’s Council for Concordia University Wisconsin.

Jewish Family Services (JFS)

Scott and fellow Financial Representatives were sponsors of The Masterpiece Style & Speed Showcase. The event features rare and exotic Ferraris, Bentleys, Porsches, Maseratis and and Duesenberg's from around the world. The Showcase benefits the Jewish Family Services (JFS), a social services agency that assists individuals of any race, religion, income or lifestyle. The JFS provides: meals to homebound elderly, counseling for children, adults and families in distress, support to individuals with mental illness, and teaches life skills to those living with developmental disabilities - regardless of their ability to pay.

Professional

While attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Scott Schwertfeger was drawn to Northwestern Mutual by the prospect of unlimited opportunity for professional achievement. In 1993, as a sophomore, he joined Northwestern Mutual as a College Intern. While maintaining a full class load for his degree, he was recognized as a member of the second place team for College Interns. Upon graduation in 1996, Scott became a full-time Financial Representative and enjoyed helping clients achieve financial security. In 2009, he was recognized as one of the top 300 Financial Representatives out of a field force of 8,000 Representatives.

In addition to his own practice as a Financial Advisor, Scott also discovered a professional strength in fostering the development of other Financial Representatives. He discovered this talent early in his career as a College Unit Director, where he worked with interns like himself. In 2000, Northwestern Mutual recognized this talent and appointed him to Managing Director of Northwestern Mutual's North Shore Milwaukee office. Since his appointment, Scott has won the Outstanding Achievement in Recruiting and Sales (OARS) award five times. This award recognizes Northwestern Mutual Managing Directors who do an outstanding job of developing their own practice as well as their District Network Office. In 2009, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) also recognized Scott’s management talent with the Manager’s Membership Award.

How Northwestern Mutual helps you live the life you want.

When people feel better about their money, good things happen—they become more confident and feel more secure. For more than 160 years, Northwestern Mutual has helped people achieve the financial flexibility they need to live more and worry less.

Being a mutual company means Northwestern Mutual reports to its clients, not Wall Street. They don't believe in chasing fads or taking undue risk for short-term gains. Instead, they take a long-term approach—both in the way we help people plan to reach their goals, and in the way they do business. This has served their clients (and mine) well through all kinds of economic ups and downs, including wars, recessions, even the recent pandemic.

It's why I'm happy to be part of a company that's in it for the long-haul and prioritizes clients over profit.
