How We Do Our Job

Our Approach to Financial Planning

At the heart of our approach to financial planning is the recognition that every person is different and has unique needs. There is no silver bullet that will solve every problem every time. We take the time to get to know our clients, help them identify their goals and what is most important to them, then create a plan based on their unique needs and situation.

Where You Are

We cannot create a plan without first having a solid understanding of where our clients are today. We help our clients build a budget, and strategize on how to implement. We dig into employer benefits and how they fit into their plan. We examine any debts to create a plan to pay them down as efficiently as possible.

Where You Want to Go

When people think about financial planning, too often all they consider is retirement. We examine every goal a client may have: buying a first or second home, starting a family, traveling the world, and any other goals that may require some forethought. We brainstorm the best way to save towards these goals and most importantly, save for them intentionally.

Of course, retirement is a major piece of any plan, so we will spend all the time we need on it. We focus on investing, but also tax-efficient strategies and distribution planning. Rather than creating a lifestyle based on the assets available, we create a plan around the lifestyle you want then work towards that goal.

What Might Go Wrong

While we may not want to think about it, there are plenty of areas where plans go awry, especially over the course of your career and life. We would not be planners if we ignored these possibilities, so we always spend time talking about risk management: Building an Emergency Fund, Debt Management, and having proper insurance tools in place to protect you and your family.

Our Community Impact

As part of Northwestern Mutual, I'm proud to help accelerate the search for better childhood cancer treatments while supporting families undergoing treatment, and survivors from late effects. Here are some of the organizations we partner with:

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF)

ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.

How Northwestern Mutual helps you live the life you want.

When people feel better about their money, good things happen—they become more confident and feel more secure. For more than 160 years, Northwestern Mutual has helped people achieve the financial flexibility they need to live more and worry less.

Being a mutual company means Northwestern Mutual reports to its clients, not Wall Street. They don't believe in chasing fads or taking undue risk for short-term gains. Instead, they take a long-term approach—both in the way we help people plan to reach their goals, and in the way they do business. This has served their clients (and mine) well through all kinds of economic ups and downs, including wars, recessions, even the recent pandemic.

It's why I'm happy to be part of a company that's in it for the long-haul and prioritizes clients over profit.
