As part of Northwestern Mutual, I'm proud to help accelerate the search for better childhood cancer treatments while supporting families undergoing treatment, and survivors from late effects. Here are some of the organizations we partner with:
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF)
ALSF funds cancer research, raises awareness, and supports the families of children with cancer. Since 2012, Northwestern Mutual, its employees, and financial professionals like me have donated more than $20 million to support ALSF and fund over 400,000 research hours.
Beads of Courage
Beads of Courage is an art-in-medicine program that helps kids with cancer tell their unique treatment story through colorful beads that are symbols of their courage.
Junior Achievement for Sacramento
Junior Achievement is a program that allows local business professionals to enter classrooms and teach children important concepts about the global economy. Growing up Jim learned about business from his father who was a small business owner. Knowing not every child gets these kind of learning opportunities has made Jim very passionate about education and Junior Achievement’s mission. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento area, and he continues to visit local classrooms to teach children about important economic concepts and help them prepare for stock market competitions.
The Golden Gate Relay
The Golden Relay is run from Napa to Santa Cruz in a single night raising money and awareness for organ donation. The cause is very important to Jim as his mother received a kidney transplant and was able to live an additional eight years. This extra time meant the world to Jim so he is excited to be able to run this in her honor annually.
Sacramento Greek Festival
One way Jim stays in touch and shares his heritage is by volunteering at Sacramento’s local Greek Food Festival. The village style festival serves authentic Greek food made by the volunteers from all parts of Greece.
Sacramento Little League (Previously Involved)
You may recognize Jim from his time volunteering for the East Sac Little League team. He helped coach the team his son Peter played on. He was on the board for about 10 years. So if he looks familiar but you just can't place him maybe take a look at your child's past little league photos. He might just be there too.
